Thirty years ago, two imperfect people met at a backyard party, each carrying dreams, disappointments, and a few chapters that were never meant to define the rest of their lives.

Together, we built a life—not perfectly, but intentionally. Along the way, we began to understand that a well-built life isn’t made in the biggest moments. It’s built in the ordinary ones: how we care for our health, who we love, what gives us purpose, the freedom we create, and what we leave behind.

A Well-Built Life grew from our story, but it was never meant to stay there.

It’s an invitation to pay attention to your own.

Through the five threads, Health, Connection, Purpose, Freedom and Legacy, we explore the practices, choices and ordinary moments that shape a life over time.

The story behind A Well-Built Life

For more than three decades, Diane has cared for people as a nurse while remaining endlessly curious about what helps us live and feel well.

Her work brings together nursing, yoga, mindfulness, breath, movement, and integrative practices with a simple belief: wellness doesn't have to be another thing we perform perfectly.

Sometimes we need to move. Sometimes we need to restore. Sometimes we need to breathe, pay attention, or simply make room for what matters.

That philosophy became Barely Balanced: A Well-Built Practice, the practical branch of A Well-Built Life.

Ken has always been the steady reminder that a well-built life is ultimately about people. Family, lifelong friendships, keeping your word, showing up, and making time for what matters have shaped the way he lives and the philosophy behind A Well-Built Life.
